INSTRUCTIONS: This session can be done all at once or you can do the activities in smaller segments. They are numbered in order and all are intended for parents and children to do together. For the opening activity you will need some paper and crayons or markers for drawing. Make sure when finish that you use the communication box at the end to report that you have done this!! Questions just call or text (330-415-6238) or email ([email protected]) Julie Sutton. Enjoy!!
WHO IS GOD? (1): When you think about or talk to God what does God look like? If we are in a relationship with a God we cannot see, our imagination is very important. Take a moment to think, and then each of you should draw a picture of how you imagine God. Talk about what you drew and why. Then watch the images in the slideshow to the right and see if any of them look like the God you imagine. How we imagine God is important to how we relate to God!! |
WHO ARE WE? (2)
Find and read Genesis 1:26-31 out loud. What does God say about everything, including the people, that God created? Watch the video on the left. How does the shepherd feel about his sheep? How does he feel about the sheep who left even though is was supposed to stay with the flock? How did the shepherd feel after he found the lost sheep? God ALWAYS loves us. Have your 2nd grader tell you what about them makes them lovable--what specifically about him/her as an individual. |
WHY DO WE NEED FORGIVENESS? (3)
Watch the video story on the right. We all need forgiveness sometimes. Parents, tell your 2nd grader about a time when you did something that hurt someone else. (Make sure it is appropriate for a 2nd grader.) Then tell them how you fixed the relationship and how that felt. |
|
(4)The Appropriate Response to God's love and forgiveness is JOY!!! The last video is one you can dance and sing to with your child, or find your own way to let go of anything bothering you and be joyful with your child. Sing, Dance, Jump, Yell, whatever feel right for you. Give yourselves that gift as a little taste of how First Reconciliation will feel.
